january girl is dead

january girl is mourning the death of her friends. one, two, now three. she loves the smell of fall and the turning trees, but it shatters her, puddles her, then sucks her into electrons.

Sanskrit Proverb

If you want comfort you should give up learning;
If you desire to acquire learning you should abandon comfort.
How can a person who wants comfort acquire learning?
And how can a person enjoy comfort who wants to learn?

I would say there is a difference between learning about comfort and being comfortable.

I don't know about you but I find great comfort in understanding and great anxiety in uncertainty.

Sure, sometimes, but if you are actively learning, then you will always be aware of just how much you don't understand. Not only that, but just understanding a situation doesn't necessarily make it any less sickening.

I understand that Tom Delay contributed to women being forced into prosititution. I understands that he does evil things for money and power. That understanding comforts me not.

As long as there is a critical analysis of the information you take in then you will find greater comfort. You can placate and rationalize ugliness and evil but in the end you have to use reason and logic mixed with whatever else (personal bias) it is that will result in your own understanding about something. This process might be be tough but peace of mind is the best comfort. I'm with you on the whole prostitution thing. Those two crazy Libertarians Penn and Teller after suffering a few "not so good" episodes of their Showtime show just did one about why it should be legal. Their conclusions were logical and well reasoned. Their next one is about the death penalty and it sounds like they have a different conclusion than my own personal bias so I'll have to see how their information looks.
